We went to the park by Grandma and Grandpa's house where they have this really fun splash pad. The kids had a good time running (well, ok, not running, cause if you run you'll slip and fall!) but walking FAST in and out of the fountains. Makenna wasn't all that interested since she fell down RIGHT when we got to the grass...kinda soured the whole experience! BUT she did perk up towards the end!
The Fourth of July:
We didn't go anywhere for the fourth this year, but we did celebrate with 3 nights of fireworks! The kids love doing the 'poppers' and sparklers, so we could bribe them to do just about anything for these three days, it was great! Grandma and Grandpa came over the night before to do fireworks since they didn't want to get home late on the actual day...(grandpa is Bishop and he has lots of preparations on Saturday night!) We had a good time watching the fountains and covering our ears when they screamed! On Saturday (the real 4th) we stayed home until about 6, then headed over to our church parking lot (which, conveniently, is one of the best seats in town for the local big fireworks!) it was a bring your own bbq and hang out with friends night. It was great. The kids brought their scooters and had fun zipping through the parking lot with the other kids. The firework show was great, and it lasted forever! The fireworks started so late, and lasted so long that it was pretty late when we got home...soooo we saved the fireworks that the kids picked out for the next night. They had fun picking out the fountains and doing the sparklers. Audri and Makenna have a hard time not acting like total goof-balls!
The Sandy Mountain Festival:
It's official. We have lived in Sandy for 3 years. For the first year of the Sandy Mountain festival, we were out of town...and we didn't quite know what a big deal it was. Last year, we mooched parade spots off of my friend/sister Carrie. This year...we're part of the community. We snatched our spot on the parade route a couple of days in advance...setting out our chairs and roping of the area! The kids had fun at the parade...but for some sad reason, the parade didn't allow for any candy throwing...wasn't quite the same for the kids, but we had fun anyway. The mountain festival also has a kids parade that we did, where all the kids get together in front of the school and there is face painting, magic show, and treats and then everyone walks/rides/strolls around the block parading...it was fun...even if I almost got run over by a kid in a power wheel. When we got back there was hot dogs and lemonade...a pretty good time for everyone! The part I was looking forward to the most was the market thingy they have at the park. We went on Saturday morning, and the park was teeming with people! We watched the puppet show and then walked around the booths enjoying our elephant ear. Brayden found a real like fossil rock that he had to have and Audri, picked herself up a shark tooth necklace. I managed to find a couple of pairs of earrings too, oh, and we also had to stop by the art booth where Brayden has artwork from school for sale...yes I paid 5 bucks for something he probably could have recreated at home! It was a fun day, not to mention, as I mentioned we are part of the community now, so there we ran into a lot of people that we knew from church, soccer, and school stuff...one of the reasons I like living in a small town!
Take Me out the the Ball Game, Beavers Baseball:
As part of the library summer reading program we were able to get some free kids tickets to the local AAA baseball game. The Portland Beavers took on the Salt Lake Bees...and lost. BUT since they were playing Salt Lake, that was ok with us! It was SUPER hot, so the kids were a little cranky, and got a bit bored towards the end, but it was a fun night. Not to mention, it was family night, so hot dogs, water, and ice cream were only$1!
Library Summer Reading Program, Reptile Man:
Our county has an awesome Summer Reading Program. During the summer, the libraries put on a summer reading program with lots of different shows (magic, juggling, science, puppet, etc) for the kids all for FREE! Our library also does a thing where if you do some requirements (this year it was a reading log, design a bookmark, and decorate a hat) then you get special prizes and are entered into a drawing for big prizes. Well, one of the events was the 'Reptile Man' we actual went up to my friend Kelly's library to see this show and it was so cool. The kids loved it. They got to see a whole bunch of snakes and lizards...even a cobra and a rattler. The cobra 'hooded' for the kids, and it was a little bit freaky! There were also snakes and lizards that they could touch, and my kids were all about that. Makenna and Audri even wore the king snake as a bracelet...they loved it!

What a FUN summer, so far! There are so many family/kid activities here during the summer, we really are lucky:) I hope the rest of your summer is super fun and relaxing!!! Hope you are feeling well and getting to rest when needed:)
Sorry but it was hilarious when you almost got ran over with the big wheel. Glad to see some summer pictures looks like you guys are having a good one. Please post some pics of your growing belly (:
I really, really, really love these pictures. They are such good demonstrations of the kids' personalities. It's just adorable!
